The neat thing about stumble upon is if say I stumble a thread then other members go and post a review at stumble upon on my stumble then the stumble becomes more relevant and gets more views. So now I think you guys have seen that when I'm stumbleing I am posting my stumble in the thread, If you click on the link and are a member of stumble upon just review it and leave a comment.

To sign up to stumble upon is just like most social networking and bookmarking sites you just need an email address and your in.

Today we had 283 visitors at one time because of stumble upon and twitter. So that's the proof that this works.

So stumble and post reviews to other peoples stumbling, also if you stumble post the link in the thread and I as well as others will post reviews to make your stumble more relevant.

Please ask any questions you may have here.
Enjoy.

Sorry guys!  I'm lost and not quite sure how to get found.  I know I need to spend time just clicking on stuff and figuring out what it does, but it's been a long day and I'm done for.  And I really just want to make jewelry.  Anyone willing to work out a step by step.  The terms just don't make sense!

Andrew,
I contacted GoDaddy and got tech support to add the Handmade Artist Link!  I'm psyched!  New technology here I come!  Can you add mine now to whatever site it was that you had posted about.  (Me still getting lost in this great wide world!) ???

So how does forum promotion help you. Well in short it gets people to see your stuff and hopefully go to your shop.
So how do you do it?
There are multiple ways to promote the forum, which in turn promotes handmade, which in turn promotes your stuff.
The reason I'm posting this is I'm getting tired of promoting by myself. Now don't get mad!
I want to take a minute to thank all the people that have put the badge on your blogs. I have google alerts set up on my computer and I know when someone puts the badge up, I typically follow their blog and comment on their posts to show a little support for their participation in the forum.i tried putting the badge on my site but it didn't work but i put you're website address i hope thats good enough thanks :)

Also I've noticed a lot of people using twitter, I try to re-tweet their posts in an effort to support what their doing to help them self and the forum.

So don't think I'm complaining, It's just that this movement to support handmade is taking a lot of work on my part and with now 390 members and only a couple of dozen people helping promote, I'm getting tired.

So what can you do?

First of all grab a badge! And stick it on your blog or website.
Second, when you open up any thread there is a white box on the upper right hand side that says bookmark. Click it. Go ahead don't be scared. There are over 50 different sites that you can use to promote your post or a post of another member that you like.

I use twitter, plurk, reddit, stumbleupon to name a few.
I have many others also like blogs, squiddo, hubpages, and what have you.

The point I'm trying to make is if everyone tweets, or stumbles, or something everyday it will get more people looking at your stuff than you can count.

Last month alone we got 163,535 hits, this month we are already up to 67,036 hits. (To see the stats click on more stats on the bottom left of the forums' main page) That's a lot more than any of my blogs or websites get and I assume it's more than you guys get. So what it means is people are seeing your stuff. We've had several members speaking of  their stats going up on their Etsy shops so I know it works.

I also know that it could be much better. So I'm asking for the members to get involved with a little daily promotion to help build membership and to help build visitors.

If everyone does their part it will help all of us. We are really trying to provide a free service to the handmade community and I think it's working, I just know I'm getting tired.

So join in and help promote.

Thanks so much for your participation.

Andrew

I'm not an expert on stumbleupon but here goes. Stumble upon is  a bookmarking and review website, if you go to stumbleupon sign up and get an account, then you download the stumbleupon toolbar. Once you have the toolbar on your browser and you find a site you like, like this one, you give it the thumbs up on your toolbar. A window then pops up and you can give it a quick review and some categories like jewelry, crafts, or arts. Then that site gets saved to your favorites and also gets put up on the stumble upon site main page and or other pages based on your tags. If other people like the site they will also give it a review, then what you stumbled becomes more relevant.

Also on the stumble upon toolbar you will see a button on the right that says stumble, if you click that you get to see all the recent stumbles from other people. I really don't use this function but others do.

One of the best things that everyone can do to help promote the forum if they don't want to stumble, is if say I or someone else stumbles and thread and post the link to what I stumbled, you click that link and give it a quick review just like a comment on a blog and that will help my stumbles and others to be more relevant and thus bring more traffic to that page. But I believe you need to be a member of stumble upon to leave a review which is as simple as signing up with an email address.

Hi, Andrew -
Thanks for your clear tips - I've pasted the HAF badge on my website makesilver.com and I'm hoping to tell more people about a book I wrote, Make Your Own Rings, which I hope forum members will find interesting and useful.
I look forward to seeing more of others.  Happy 4th - will see fireworks tonight with my sweetie as long as it doesn't rain.  It has been really wet in Colorado this summer!

I was reading in a blog today about Twitter and they did a big pole.  People will rarely click on links if you are promoting yourself, but WILL click on links if you are promoting other people.  Sooooo, keep in mind that if you see something you like on the forum or a members shop or blog-Twitter it!  Others will do the same and we can ALL increase our views.

This is one of the founding ideas for the site; promotion handmade, of others, and of ourselves.  By sticking yourself out there others will do the same for you.
