Monkeys!
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:12:27 AM »
I'm sooo busy and I shouldn't be messing about but I just had to make these as a little distraction!

They are made from transparent red glass using the Freeze N Fuse technique that i'm teaching this weekend to 15 glass-thirsty students!  I haven't cleaned them up yet so the edges are quite rough and I have no idea what I'm going to do with them except back them with something because they are so thin and fragile.

But I'm sure something will come from this mold, maybe a cast cage vase of monkeys.... who knows!

Took the words out of my mouth!  I used to love those monkeys and had them hung all over my dresser on all the knobs!

Yup, I have 2 barrels at the studio, one big one small.  I really want to make one the size of the kiln, 2m wide!

I might have to, I just amputated baby monkey's hand trying to file him!  :o

I've got back views as a mold too so I can do a chain!

Now I feel bad for the monkey!  And... y'know... all that work you did on it...

I don't know anything about glass, so this might be a dumb idea, but can you clean threm up with wet-and- dry paper?

Yeah, I have diamond files too, it's not the how it's more the yikes as they are really really thin for this type of glass.

I think I need to be tidyier before they are fired to reduce this but I am gonna try fusing them onto flat glass to strengthen them and take away the rough edge too.

Great monkeys! They remind me of the movie, "Twelve Monkeys," in which the logo of the activist group looks a bit like your monkeys. Great movie.

Is there ANYONE who didn't have a Barrel of Monkeys to play with as a kid?  Cute idea!
