Kumihimo
« on: February 16, 2010, 04:30:24 PM »

Kumihimo is Japanese braiding. This YouTube video does a great job explaining an easy braid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RNbFjvZycs.

Watching this was all I needed to get started, but I really do recommend buying a disc and the little plastic ez-bob bobbins. I'm getting a much better (more consistent) product, much more easily, and much faster (well, make that less slowly) now that I've got them.

I added this video to my blog and also tweeted it afterwards because it was such a rewarding video to watch. You can find it at http://www.redfoxjewelry.com/blog/?p=141 if anyone is interested. I am trying to use my blog as a tool to help others learn how to make their own handmade stuff as well as promoting our group.

I didn't know you could add the videos to your blog. (Well, maybe I can't, since I use blogspot.) But are there any copyright issues to worry about? How does this work? I'd kind of like to put this video on my blog, too. Right now all I've posted is the link.

It sure is nice of you to share your link with us!  I want to try this too...

I tried to post a comment on the YouTube vid but it's not working...  Here's where I got my Kumiloom starter kit if anyone is interested:

Isn't it nice we all share our addictions with each other! hehe
oh this reminds me of when I was little and we used wood thread spools to do something like this - hammered tiny nails in it - I think the disk looks like it's probably easier to use.
