Myrtle the Turtle
« on: February 10, 2010, 10:48:58 PM »
Just wanted to share my very first oil painting with you all.   I'm rather happy with how Myrtle the Turtle turned out....you know, for a first effort and all! :)

I also decided to stick with acrylics for my whimsical paintings and pursue more 'serious' subjects in oils. My next project is a landscape!

Anyway, here's the inspiration photo and then one of my interpretation! Thanks for taking a look...I appreciate any and all feedback!

Great job!  Definitely doesn't look like a first attempt.

aaahhh You are a natural! Just keep playing!! If you have any questions about oils, I'll be happy to try to answer them - but seriously - just keep playing with them!  I love oils - they just don't love me - so I have to limit my painting to when I can have the windows wide open and several fans going - do be sure to provide yourself good ventilation when using oils.  tweet tweet

Thank you all!  Everyone has been so encouraging!

My painting instructor told me that I'm better at oils than I know. I hope he's right...I'm still afraid to mess things up but hopefully will become more confident soon. I've started another painting this week and will post pix as it develops!
