Best way to finish a necklace with C-Lon cord?
« on: February 05, 2010, 05:10:28 AM »
Hi everyone,

I just got some C-Lon cord (the 0.5mm) and want to try making some long knotted necklaces, and I wondered what people think is the best way to finish them?

I'd love to know if you have techniques for attaching a clasp and also for just tying a knot at the end that doesn't look messy.

And some sympathy would be lovely...I was in a car accident two days ago and am feeling really stressed out by it. It's hurting to type and it happened the day I got my cord so I've got it but can't play with it :-( But figured if I bite the bullet and type this now I might have some answers by the time my hands have stopped hurting.

Thank you :-)

Well, I can't help you with your finishing question, Swirley, but here's a big (((((((hug))))))) from me.

Sorry about your scary accident,   :(   and hope your injuries are minor and that you're feeling better very soon ...  ;)

Thanks for the hugs folks. Does anyone know the standard way to end it with any nylon cord, or does anyone have a different brand they recommend for knotting?

My housemate had someone drive into the back of him yesterday too - just when I was calming down! :-(

OOH sorry to hear of the run of car bad luck... sorry I know nothing of c-lon cord... I do knot a loop in thin leather cord using a sort of modified knot like a hangmans knot but I don't know how to explain it  :-\

Oh man~ glad to know you are OK (except for the soreness)!  Poor girl~ that totally sucks!

I've always preferred to cover my c-lon, thread and flex wire knots with crimp beads (I always use the cylinders and crimp pliers) for two reasons:

1, it keeps the knot from slipping and/or coming loose (glue doesn't last forever) and
2, it hides the knot and clipped end that inevitably sticks out and shows (that always bugs me)

Lots of people tie off their pieces in a surgeons knot and then add a drop of super glue to the knot to help reinforce it.
