I don't know what you guys think but this may be too close to plagiarizing to me. Especially the real hand print and the heart.

Unfortunately I think we may need to go back to the drawing board a little. The heart in the middle of the hand is one thing I liked but it's too close to the other one.

Any ideas?

I think we have make some changes as I don't want another site to start complaining or suing.

If we could trade the heart for something else I would be ok but the heart is too close for comfort.

Sorry!

I would so long as the By Hand logo isn't trademarked, including the heart in ours wouldn't be a problem.  The hand is sufficiently different.

It's a close vote! I voted for the mechanical design myself.

Hi guys
I see your 'issue' BUT my DH is well aware of copyright issues as this is his full time job (he's also done work for the government) and he had a look at the 3 logos put together.  The mechanical hand is completely different from the 'by hand by me' one although the hand print is similar.
The subaru commercial....has nothing to do with anything, just because it's a similar concept....so I'm not even going to touch that subject.

All I have to say is the mechanical hand was completely DRAWN by my DH so NO ONE has this hand or logo AT ALL, it is completely unique... like I said before the hand print is NOT unique and you will probably find many hand prints used in many different craft sites all over the world.

No one owns a heart inside of a hand.  To us this isn't even an issue when it comes to the mechanical hand.
As I recall we were asked to replace the 'mechanical' hand with a real one.  This is not plagiarism by any means.

I honestly think you guys have read into this far too much and it has now turned out to be a huge deal.
We do not have the time to keep going back to the 'drawing board' so if you are not happy with the ideas (even though the mechanical one is COMPLETELY different)...you may find someone else to do them.

I'm sorry but after about 30 re-designs I think we would have to pull out...

Ambient if you think we are safe that's fine with me. The last thing I want to be is a pain, as you hopefully know. I just don't want any crap from another site.

If your DH thinks we are safe and does this professionally then I'm fine staying the course.

just a suggestion.. but if you want a different symbol what about a star? That would set the team's logo apart from any other and it wouldn't even have to be a question. No one else has that hand and to my knowledge no one else uses a star in a hand.

There are many many more companies that use a heart in a hand so if you want something different and dont want to be known as the "copy cats" why not do a star?

I am confident in the Mechanical Hand design because it's an original by a professional in the field who has an ethical obligation to not plagiarize.

The language of law for design is very loose, probably because of the vast amount of images on the web, so HAF would be safe from any legal ramifications but it's nice to know that no ethical issues would arise either.  :police:

Just take this into account...
"It’s no coincidence that the most memorable logo designs are also the most simple in appearance. You want the identities you create to be instantly recognisable, acting as a memorable identifier for the company they represent. A consumer will normally just take a fleeting glimpse at a logo, and an overly complex mark will make that opportunity redundant."

You guys decide...(original color trials, wording is different)

That is so true. I have not thought of the glimpse aspect. We see a giant M and we know what it is for, big circle w/ ears and we know, car symbols are the same. Great point. I may need to go back to the drawing board myself for my personal stuff.
AG, thanks for all your help and your DHs.

I don't have a problem with simple designs...

The only problem I have with the mechanical is that it still looks like  a factory with smokestacks on first glance

That doesn't say handcrafted or artisan
It says, massproduces and ecologiclly UN-friendly

People don't look at logos closely esp if they're small - at least not at first
Its a fleeting glance that leaves an impression in the  subconscious and I would be afraid it would leave the wrong impression.

If I see smokestacks, I'm sure other people will too.

This is a big deal to be taken seriously and I wonder if we rushed into it. Just because we wanted it by the first of the year didn't mean we had to....

just something to think about....

It's not paranoia - it's taking this place seriously, which it is very clear that everyone here does!  That's why it will be a success, no matter which logo we end up deciding upon.
I'm going to take another look at my "glance" items for my shop too...Wow there is such great knowledge here.
AmbientGirl and DH, kudos to you for going through this.  It is more appreciated than words can say!!!

As an original artwork I dont see that the hand drawn hand says mass produced or ecologically un-friendly.

Whilst I agree it is important to brand the team - the team itself is more important. One of our team has spent a lot of time doing this for the team on a voluntary basis. We should all be aware of how we say things, the written word is not always the best form of communication.

You couldn't of put it better Haffina thank you for you're eloquent statement. That is one reason why I moved this to a poll when I did because I felt it was getting a little too demanding on our wonderful volunteer. I think both designs rock and I do agree that we need to choose our words correctly and with consideration.

Nicola, hon, I'm so sorry if anything I've said during this whole process has offended you. You and your DH are incrediby talented and I truely appreciate the effort you've put into this...

I love the clean look of the mechnical design but I love the organic feel of the other.

I have invested a lot of my time and effort into this team and since I'm attaching my name and my business to the design I really wanted it to give the right impression.

I suppose Kim's right though, we can make either one work.
